Artist Statement
As a lifestyle and documentary photographer, I use my lens as a tool to preserve fleeting, candid moments—fragments of time that reveal deeper truths about people, communities, and cultures. My name is Victor Adetunji Johnson, also known as ADayWithTunji, and I consider myself a visual storyteller dedicated to capturing honest, unscripted narratives.
Now based in Columbia, South Carolina, by way of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, my practice draws from lived experiences and community engagement. I am particularly drawn to the power of documenting everyday life—moments that may seem ordinary but carry rich emotional and historical weight.
My work spans environmental portraiture, commercial photography, still life in plants, objects, and miniatures along with pieces created for art museum contexts. Whether working with individuals or within larger communal settings, I aim to honor the humanity and complexity of my subjects, encouraging viewers to slow down and see the stories that exist all around them. Photography, to me, is not just about imagery—it’s about memory, truth, and legacy.
